چکیده

In order to study local order around Ag and Rb ions in ionexchanged glasses EXAFS experiments were performed after thermal annealiigs at different temperatures below and above the glass transformation temperature. By means of Ag K-edge spectra three coordination spheres could be discussed. Whereas the two Ag-O distances remain unchanged during thermal treatments the Ag-Ag correlation exhibits the influence of the transformation of Ag ions to crystalline precipitations at elevated temperatures. The Rb Kedge spectra present anomalous oscillations which can be ascribed to multi-electron excitations [ls3d]. In order to evaluate the main EXAFS signal, these features were subtracted using absorption data of gaseous rubidium. The Fourier transforms display similar Rb-O bond lengths within the first sphere for both the ion-exchanged soda-lime and the disilicate glasses while relaxation phenomena modify the second oxygen sphere towards the disilicate structure.

X-ray absorption studies of chlorine valence and local environments in borosilicate waste glasses

Chlorine (Cl) is a constituent of certain types of nuclear wastes and its presence can affect the physical and chemical properties of silicate melts and glasses developed for the immobilization of such wastes. Cl K-edge X-ray absorption spectra (XAS) were collected and analyzed to characterize the unknown Cl environments in borosilicate waste glass formulations, ranging in Cl-content from 0.23 ...

Photoluminescence of atomic gold and silver particles in soda-lime silicate glasses.

We report the chemistry and photophysics of atomic gold and silver particles in inorganic glasses. By synchrotron irradiation of gold-doped soda-lime silicate glasses we could create and identify unambiguously the gold dimer as a stable and bright luminescing particle embedded in the glassy matrix. The gold dimer spectra coincide perfectly with rare gas matrix spectra of Au(2). The glass matrix...

A NEW GENERATION OF OXYNITRIDE GLASSES CONTAINING FLUORINE

Oxynitride glasses are found as grain boundary phases in silicon nitride ceramics. They are effectively alumino-silicate glasses in which nitrogen substitutes for oxygen in the glass network, and this causes increases in glass transition and softening temperatures, viscosities (by two to three orders of magnitude), elastic moduli and microhardness. Calcium silicate-based glasses containing fluo...
